Around 70% of Americans find packing to be the most stressful part of a trip, and it’s easy to understand why.
There’s the stress of worrying if you forgot something and trying to fit everything in that tiny suitcase that seemed so much bigger when you first bought it.
However, if you plan ahead and know what you need, packing becomes so much less stressful.
Here’s what you need for a lake vacation!
Drinking Water and Non-Perishable Snacks
Although you’re going to be close to a body of water on any trip to the lake, chances are it’s not safe to drink. Although the tap water at your accommodation might be just fine, it’s a good idea to have some bottled water — just in case.
You could also confirm ahead of time that the tap water is safe and take a reusable water bottle. Carrying these around with you can be invaluable when you suddenly feel parched.
Basic First Aid Kit and Medication
A basic first aid kit (with any medication you need) is essential on any packing checklist.
Hopefully, you’ll never have to break it out, but knowing it’s there will give you peace of mind — and at least you have it if you do need it.
A basic first aid kit should include painkillers, gauze, bandaids, and something to disinfect any cuts or scratches with.
Appropriate Clothes and Toiletries
You should make sure you have the toiletries you’ll need for the vacation, which will likely depend on how long it is. When going on vacation, this list may include:
- Body wash
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
Everyone has their own routine, however, so make sure you take what you need for you!
You should also make sure to take appropriate clothing. Pack swimwear if you plan on actually getting in the lake, and look up the weather ahead of time so you know what else to pack.
Taking a trip can become unexpectedly stressful if you didn’t check the weather beforehand!
If the lake is safe to swim in, you need to make sure you pack things to do! You could take a ball to play in the water, or floating water mats to let yourself really lie back and relax.
Although the fun stuff is more enjoyable to think about, make sure you pack some towels too, as that’d be a real disaster if you didn’t have any after emerging from the water!
Pack These For Your Lake Vacation
When going on a lake vacation, you should pack everything you’d need for a normal vacation and then other things that are appropriate for the lake — such as swimwear and some mats to chill out on in the water.
If you make a packing checklist ahead of time, you’ll find that packing itself becomes a lot easier.
