How to Stay Safe and Deal with Getting Sick During a Post-Pandemic Family Trip.

“No Covid-19 vaccine guarantees to be 100 percent effective in preventing any person from contracting the Covid-19 disease. Thus, if you are planning a family trip after getting vaccinated, it is still your responsibility to keep you and your family safe while traveling. Here is how this is possible”

It may seem as though domestic and foreign travel are returning, but travel advisories around the world continue to recommend that travelers only travel in emergencies.

This may be due to the fact that a majority of countries that suffered from the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic blamed incoming passengers.

But in case you are making any family travel plans now that the Covid-19 vaccine is available, here is what you need to know about.

Follow this guide on how to stay safe from getting sick during your post-pandemic travel.

Why not travel or why take precautions after getting vaccinated with the Covid-19 vaccine?

Surviving the Covid-19 era was certainly tough for almost everyone.

As more people are getting the Covid-19 vaccine shot, there is no reason why they should suffer even more and resist returning to their normal daily lives.

Perhaps this is the question that most people have in mind.

a simple answer to this is that no Covid-19 vaccine is guaranteed to make its user 100 percent immune from catching the Covid-19 disease in the future.

Also, people need to understand the key difference between a vaccine and medicine.

A vaccine is just one of the many preventative measures recommended to stay safe from disease. Contrary to this, medicines are for curing infected people.

Therefore, since the medicine to cure the Covid-19 disease isn’t available, until then all preventative measures including getting the Covid-19 vaccine shots remain unavoidable.

How to stay safe from getting sick during a post-pandemic family trip?

Staying and keeping you and your family safe from getting sick during a post-Covid-19 family trip should be an utmost priority.

Once you consider it as a priority, it won’t be difficult for you to abide by the following guidelines to stay safe from getting sick.

Remember that staying safe is not just for you, but also represents how responsible you feel for the well-being of people around you.

Know yourself and the people you plan to travel with

Do not travel and/or do not travel with someone, if you or the other person –

  • Suffered from sickness or mild Covid-19 symptoms, especially taking into account the last 14 days before traveling;
  • Is currently sick; or
  • Has a history of contracting seasonal diseases because of a weak immune system.

Know your destination

  • Check the most recent updates on the number of daily Covid-19 cases being reported in the destination you are planning to travel; and
  • Aside from this, you also need to check the history of your destination to learn if it had been previously declared as a Covid-19 contamination zone.

Stay in quarantine before traveling, if necessary

It would be good to quarantine yourself just a few days before traveling in some cases.

Such as if you live with someone who has more chances of contracting the Covid-19 disease.

This includes children, sick persons, and/or old-aged people.

Get yourself vaccinated

Aside from getting the mandatory Covid-19 vaccine, you might also be needed to get other vaccines such as the seasonal flu vaccine and MMR or measles-mumps-rubella vaccine.

Dealing with mandatory quarantining policies

Despite being declared perfectly fit-to-travel, if the destination you are traveling to requires all travelers to quarantine for a few days upon arrival, make sure your trip plan has a provision for some extra days.

This will also help in case a local emergency lockdown situation is declared during your travel trip.

Don’t forget to carry enough supplies to last for the duration of the mandatory quarantine, especially any medications that you take on a regular basis.

Follow all of the mandatory Covid-19 precautions

This includes –

  • Washing hands regularly;
  • Using antibacterial or disinfectant agents;
  • Using a face mask;
  • Avoiding public gatherings;
  • Maintaining a social distance;
  • Avoiding unnecessary physical contact, etc.

What to do if you get sick while on your post-Covid-19 family trip?

In case you do get sick or develop Covid-19 symptoms during your post-Covid-19 family travel, consider doing the following.

  • Do not panic. Have faith in getting well soon. Remember that being mentally strong is as important as being physically strong;
  • Isolate (quarantine) yourself from the rest of your family immediately;
  • Seek medical consultation and get yourself tested to confirm the presence of Covid-19 and check its severity to you;
  • Promptly and responsibly, inform the local and all relevant authorities that require information regarding this issue. This might include the hotel or place you are staying at, the airline you traveled or will return to travel with, travel agent, your country’s travel and health ministry, etc.

Good health is a blessing. So make sure that while traveling with your family in the post-pandemic period, you are pretty much aware of everything to take full care of this blessing. In any case of exposure to a health risk, you should know how to handle it without panicking.
